Monthly Bloom Competition

The Monthly Bloom Competition is held in conjunction with our Monthly meetings from March to October except for July, when our annual show takes place.  It’s a great way to see what’s growing in our members gardens and to find more Camellias that we just must have.  After the meeting we spend time looking through the display then move to the winners table to choose an overall winner.  The judges also choose a winner and sometimes we get it right.  Any special blooms are collected by their owners and the rest may be taken home by anyone who wants them.  I have often brought home enough to fill a bowl and enjoy all week.  Occasionally the blooms are needed for a display or Judging School.

If you wish to show blooms in the Monthly Bloom Competition you need to be at the meeting no later than 12pm.  All the blooms need to be in place by 1pm when the meeting starts.  The judges and stewards quietly do their jobs while the meeting progresses and at the end of the meeting a few words are said about the quality and number of blooms for that month.  Don’t be afraid to show your blooms.  If you are uncertain about where to put them just ask for help and someone will guide you.

Each bloom needs to have a card with the name of the bloom on the front and your name on the back.  The cards are available from the committee at the main table.

We display our blooms by Species: Sasanqua, Japonica, Non-Retic Hybrid and Retic-Retic Hybrid.

Form: Single, Semi Double, Irregular Semi Double, Informal Double, Formal Double, Elegans and Spray.

Size: Measured across the diameter of the bloom.
