What should I feed my camellias?

Like us camellias like a variety in their diet.
So it is important to not give your camellias the same thing year after year.
It is also important not to overfeed them as well

It is best to feed your camellias in spring when the new growth appears with a fertiliser high in nitrogen
To improve the blooms they can be given a feed of a fertiliser high in potassium (Potash) when the buds are forming.
During winter a feed of a seaweed fertiliser is recommended.
Sick camellias should not be fed
When planting out new camellias a feed with a seaweed product is advised
Remember to always water in any fertiliser that you apply

Some years ago Camellias Illawarra became involved in a trial of a fertiliser designed specifically for camellias.
Having had very  good success with the product we found it appropriate to give it our endorsement.
The product is one named "KAHOONA" and is an animal manure based fertiliser made by the NEUTROG company who are based in South Australia.
This company is well know within the gardening community for its fertilisers for roses and orchids, just two of many such products that they make.

To see the full list of products made by the company, many of which we use, please go to their website.

Other fertilisers that camellias love are:
Blood and bone
Cow manure
Light applications of dolomite lime in winter
Other fertilisers, of your choice, designed for use on camellias
